Here in Tolland County, there are many, many different 4-H'ers learning about leadership while they become aquainted with subjects of their and their clubs' choice. Though we are all separated for most of the time, we get together once each year at a 4-H fair to celebrate our experiences from that year and to have our work and play assessed. This fair doesn't plan itself, however, and that's why we need the Fairboard.
Every year, a group of 4-H'ers is selected to represent the whole community of Tolland County 4-H. These teens are in charge of planning and executing that year's fair, under the constant guidance of a dedicated and hardworking group of parents and other 4-H-associated adults known as The Advisors.
Any 4-H'er between the ages of 12 and 19 may become a part of fairboard - they need only be nominated in and elected by last year's Board. Although this may sound scary and difficult, most of the 4-H'ers who want to become part of Fairboard should have no trouble getting in at all, as long as they are dedicated and willing to do a little bit of work to help out their fair. The best way to go about securing a nomination is to talk to a member of the existing Fairboard or Advistory Committee. If this isn't possible or you would prefer not to talk to someone face-to-face (although we all hope we aren't really that scary), you can always get in touch with the 4-H office via our Contact Us page.
