Here in Tolland County, there are many, many different 4-H'ers learning about leadership. At the same time they are being aquainted with subjects that they have helped their club to choose. Though we are all separated for most of the time, we get together once each year at our 4-H fair to celebrate our experiences from the past year as well as to have our work and play assessed. This fair doesn't plan itself, however, and that's where the Fairboard comes in.
Every year, a group of 4-H'ers is selected to represent the entire Tolland County 4-H community. These teens are in charge of planning and executing that year's fair, under the constant guidance of a dedicated and hardworking group of parents and other 4-H-associated adults known as The Advisors.
Any 4-H'er between the ages of 12 and 19 may become a part of the Fairboard - they need only be nominated in and elected by last year's Board. Although this may sound scary and difficult, most of the 4-H'ers who want to become part of Fairboard should have no trouble getting in. Each person needs to be dedicated and willing to do a little bit of work to help out their fair. The best way to go about securing a nomination is to talk to a member of the existing Fairboard or Advistory Committee. If this isn't possible or you would prefer not to talk to someone face-to-face (although we all hope we aren't really that scary), you can always get in touch with the 4-H office via our Contacts page.
